In the dark

Lighting design for a dance piece by Melanie Clarke.

We tend to think of the inside of our bodies as being in colour – red of flesh and blood, and the yellow of tendons and fat – the colours we see when the flesh is brought into the light. In fact on the inside we are in the dark. Blackness exists inside us. We want to live and move in the light and the freedom of the air that surrounds us, but sometimes we are forced into ourselves to face the darkness within.
